Lagos State Government has ordered all directors of
Lekki Worldwide Estate Limited to surrender to the State Commissioner of Police
within the next twenty four hours, or face immediate arrest.
This is following a building collapse on Kushenla
Road, Ikate Elegushi, in Lekki, which killed about 30 people, while 13 others
were rescued alive.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and
Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, said preliminary reports showed that the collapsed
five- storey building under construction, was served contravention notice for
exceeding the approved floors and thereafter sealed.
The statement added that promoters of Lekki Gardens,
unsealed the property and continued building beyond the approved floors.
The State Government has therefore, warned that any
developer who fails to comply with building regulations or attempts to subvert
the law, will henceforth face criminal prosecution.
