Senate Promises to intervene in electricity tariff hike




Nigeria's Senate President, Bukola Saraki has assured that the National Assembly will intervene in the recent 45 percent hike in electricity tariff. 

Saraki made the pledge today in Abuja while receiving members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and civil societies group who embarked on a peaceful protest to the National Assembly Complex, calling for a reversal of the hike. 

The senate President in company of some senators and House members called for calm and promised to swing into swift action.

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba who spoke to journalists after the protest said there will be further action by organised labour if the issue is not addressed within two weeks. 

 The NLC took the protest to the Abuja Electricity Distribution company and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission to register its displeasure over the hike in tarrif .
